Today it has become practically a household word, but exactly what is homeopathy? Homeopathy an alternative medicine that follows the philosophy that you can treat an illness with some kind of substance that produces similar symptoms (the Law of Similars), but diluted thousands or even millions of times or more.
Homeopathy was developed by German physician Samuel Hahnemann, who believed that consuming a substance that produced a set of symptoms could be used to treat any ailment that produced the same symptoms. There are volumes of information on substances that have been proved through careful experimentation to detail all their symptoms. The problem, of course, is that these substances are usually so highly concentrated that they won’t actually cure the patient. So he developed the theory that diluting these substances would eliminate the negative symptoms of the remedy but still work to cure the ailment. The more dilute, the stronger the preparation.
If you’re still confused about the general principle of homeopathy, here is a basic example. Say you are suffering from insomnia and you go to a homeopathic practitioner. That practitioner, a homeopath, would then prepare a 1:10 dilute solution of some kind of substance that induces insomnia – something like caffeine. A 1:10 solution is also called a 1X solution. But this 1:10 solution is not adequate enough. It needs to be diluted further. But before it is diluted, the preparation is shaken vigorously ten times in a process called succussion. According to Hahnemann, this causes the “vital energy” of the substance to be imprinted on the water molecules. Once the preparation has been carefully succussed, it is diluted again in 10 parts of water, producing a 1:100 (2X) dilute solution. This is still not suitable. It needs to be succussed and diluted again several more times. The degree of dilution varies, but is typically 20X to 400X. This is the basic principle of homeopathy as an alternative medicine and all homeopaths follow it.
Over the past two centuries, homeopathy has emerged as a popular field of natural medicine for practitioners and patients alike. And now we’re starting to see homeopathic over-the-counter medicines being sold in many major pharmacies, which makes it even easier for you to benefit from this natural medicine.
